Katie Midland's Professional Portfolio
Home
Welcome to my professional portfolio. My name is Katie Midland, and I am a student at (and almost graduate of) The School of Education at The College of William and Mary. When not at school, I live in Virginia Beach, though I moved around quite a bit as a child because of my dad's career in the Navy. As a result of our frequent moves, my family and I are extremely close to each other. My younger brother and I get along so well that we spent five weeks in the summer of 2006 traveling through Europe together. Next year, I plan to move to Maryland to pursue a future in education a little further north. I look forward to the challenge of beginning my career in a new place away from the familiar.
There are a few familiar things, however, that will always stay with me no matter where I move. The first is my complete adoration of Diet Coke and coffee. Without the one-two combination, my world would be sadder and less vibrant. It's a sad but true story. I practically worship sunny days, flip-flops, and extremely loud renditions of "Life is a Highway." I know that wherever life takes me, these things will remain constant.
Beyond the silly and slightly outrageous things, I love Faulkner, film adaptations of Tennessee Williams' plays, and profound lyrics. I love Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" and Sylvia Plath's Ariel. I'm passionate about reaching out to those who need acceptance. I love working with youth-aged humans and on service projects. I love life, and I'm thrilled to be beginning a career in education where I have the opportunity to teach and learn every day.
